Often, athletes are seen with dark purple circles on their skin from therapeutic cupping. In my practice, I occasionally use this stagnant cupping method, but I mostly do "moving cupping", which covers more surface area: one plastic cup is placed on the skin and a vacuum effect pulls the skin into the cup. With the application of oil, the cup is free to glide across the skin, gently decompressing soft tissue. It is extremely effective at releasing fascial restriction and increasing range of motion.
A mild side effect of moving-cupping can sometimes still occur on the skin: little red dots from capillaries, known as "petechiae" can last 1-2 weeks.
